Public Policy Conflict

Our societies are becoming increasingly engaged with public policy issues like climate change, decarbonization strategies, economic development and Indigenous rights and reconciliation. Although this shift is encouraging to see, public engagement on controversial issues can often lead to disagreement and polarization, making consensus difficult to reach. For decades, organizations have turned to Pacific Resolutions to help them navigate public opinion, stakeholder influence and policy development. With our help, governments, First Nations, industry and NGOs have signed dozens of government-to-government agreements and implemented countless public policy changes.

Environmental Stewardship Initiative (Omineca and NE BC)

Pacific Resolutions mediated and facilitated this joint effort by First Nations and the Province of British Columbia to develop opportunities for new environmental stewardship projects associated with natural resource and infrastructure development in Northern British Columbia. Key priorities included ecosystem assessment and monitoring, ecosystem restoration and enhancement, ecosystem knowledge exchange and stewardship education. Indigenous Peoples and Reconciliation

The impacts of Colonialism have left Indigenous peoples around the world struggling to establish fair and equitable relationships with non-Indigenous communities. Pacific Resolutions has extensive experience assisting Indigenous groups across Canada, and internationally, to resolve conflicts, develop new relationships and negotiate mutually-beneficial agreements with other levels of government, other Indigenous communities, the private sector and NGOs.

First Nations Climate Initiative

The FNCI vision is four-fold, alleviate First Nations poverty, fight climate change, restore ecosystems and reconcile with non-Indigenous peoples. The FNCI is leading a change that will transform the relationship Indigenous peoples have with Canada, while simultaneously working towards a low-carbon economy in British Columbia. Pacific Resolutions supports the FNCI Nations by providing facilitation, communication, project management and fundraising services. See fncionline.com for more.

International Relations

Strategic communication, dispute prevention strategies and conflict resolution skills are especially important in the international arena. Pacific Resolutions has provided our negotiation, mediation and facilitation services to departments of nation-states, as well as to international institutions. We specialize in designing and implementing processes that enable diplomats and interested parties to communicate effectively with one another and ultimately reach an agreement.

Conservation and Climate Change

The protection of our natural ecosystems is an increasingly important issue around the world, particularly in the context of climate change. Pacific Resolutions has assisted ENGOs, Local and s National Governments, commercial interests and Indigenous peoples in finding innovative solutions to ease the constant tension between ecological conservation and economic development.

Caribou Conservation

In 2018, federal agencies determined the Central Mountain Caribou herd numbers near Dawson Creek had reached a critical stage in the species decline. Pacific Resolutions was asked to lead the negotiations with West Moberly, the Saulteau First Nations and Canada on behalf of BC in an effort to save these animals. Four months later a deal was reached involving the creation of more than 800,000 HA’s of protected caribou habitat in BC and prescribed detailed conservation measures for the Central Group of the Southern Mountain Caribou Herd. As a result of this agreement, the caribou may be able to live on as a valued part of our shared ecosystem.

Economic Development

Mining, oil and gas, hydro and other energy projects can become the focus of intense conflict. Pacific Resolutions has provided mediation and negotiation services to help companies, effected stakeholders and governments jointly prevent and resolve these conflicts at the site-specific level ,as well as the strategic planning and policy level.
