Facilitation

Are you planning a discussion that could prove challenging? A facilitator could be just what you need. Sometimes, even if you’re not in a dispute, it can be difficult to have a constructive dialogue. Big personalities, power dynamics, miscommunication, cross-cultural confusion and frustrating patterns of behaviour and language are just some of the factors that could lead to a failed dialogue and contribute to future conflict.

It helps to have a communications expert manage the dialogue process, keep the group on task and nurture a constructive group dynamic. As your group’s facilitator, a member of our team will track your conversation, make space for everyone to be heard, and help you get from “Will this discussion ever end?“ to “Wow, I think we might be getting somewhere!” For long-term processes, our facilitators regularly provide project management, helping groups maintain momentum and reach the finish line.

Information Development Processes

Information is a cornerstone of effective and innovative problem-solving. In adversarial circumstances, information is often both the subject of disagreement and a tool used by parties to advance their interests at the expense of another. The development of a common information base can be a powerful means of transforming conflict into collaboration. When information is developed collaboratively by conflicting parties, people stop questioning the source, credibility and reliability of the information. With shared and trusted information established, parties can spend their time together talking about the substantive issues under dispute. Pacific Resolutions specializes in helping adversaries develop common information resources that they can understand and trust.

Specifically, our process for developing a shared information base involves:

  • Designing processes to collaboratively develop a common information base in a manner that facilitates consensus on issues.

  • Convening and managing processes to develop a common information base - including facilitating decision-making, retaining specialists, and engaging peer review.

  • Summarizing technical results for decision makers and negotiation processes.

  • Communicating and consulting with affected communities and the public.
