Conservation & Climate Change

The protection of our natural ecosystems is an increasingly important issue, particularly in the context of climate change. Pacific Resolutions has assisted ENGOs, Local and National Governments, commercial interests and Indigenous peoples in finding innovative solutions to ease the constant tension between ecological conservation and economic development.

Caribou Conservation

In 2018, federal agencies determined the Central Mountain Caribou herd numbers near Dawson Creek had reached a critical stage in the species decline. Pacific Resolutions was asked to lead the negotiations with West Moberly, the Saulteau First Nations and Canada on behalf of BC in an effort to save these animals. Four months later a deal was reached involving the creation of more than 800,000 HA’s of protected caribou habitat in BC and prescribed detailed conservation measures for the central group of the Southern Mountain Caribou Herd. As a result of this agreement, the caribou may be able to live on as a valued part of our shared ecosystem. For the full case study, click here. Wild Sheep Restoration

Pacific Resolutions was retained by the Wild Sheep Society in British Columbia to coordinate, plan and facilitate the Wild Sheep Conservation Summit of 2022, a collaborative meeting focused on region-specific strategies to protect and restore wild sheep populations in the BC province. The summit brought together a wide range of individuals, including wild sheep experts, enthusiasts, conservation scientists and government officials - all focused on wild sheep conservation. The three-day conference was facilitated by Pacific Resolutions, who worked alongside the Wild Sheep Society for months prior to coordinate, offer meaningful advice and facilitate meetings among a variety of stakeholders. The efforts of this conference will be put towards wild sheep conservation and rehabilitation strategies all across the province.

Great Bear Rainforest

Mediated negotiations between environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGOs), First Nations, government and industry, culminating in the protection of the Great Bear Rainforest.

Alberta Climate Leadership Plan

Mediated discussions between a number of oil sands companies and environmental organizations that led to their aligned support of the Alberta Climate Leadership Plan in November 2016. Following this, Pacific Resolutions was retained to facilitate the Alberta Oil Sands Advisory Group, a multi-stakeholder advisory group established by the Province of Alberta to advise the Alberta government on a variety of issues associated with oil sands development, notably including issues associated with implementing the Alberta Climate Leadership plan.

Killer Whale Action Plan and Recovery

Retained by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to facilitate development of an action plan and recovery strategy for the transient and offshore killer whale populations in BC.
